For Halloween this year, why not make your own candy? You only need two ingredients! We tried and tested our own homemade gummies and they turned out amazing.

Here's a step-by-step guide to making your own yummy gummies:

Ingredients:

  • 355-mL pkg concentrated frozen fruit juice, thawed
  • 6 7-g pkgs gelatin, such as Knox
  • Candy molds or a box of cornstarch

Instructions

Step 1: Pour concentrated juice into a small saucepan. (I used Welch's Grape Juice and Fruitopia Strawberry fruit-flavoured drink, but try any flavour you like). Sprinkle gelatin over juice. Stir to combine. Let stand until mixture has thickened, about 5 min.

Step 2: Set saucepan over medium-high. Cook, stirring occasionally, until juice comes to a boil. Remove from heat. Caution: Mixture will be very hot! Pour hot liquid into a small measuring cup. (This makes pouring very easy). Remove any foam with a spoon, then let stand until slightly cooled but still runny, about 10 min.

If you're making your own molds, fill a 9x13-in. baking dish with cornstarch. Smooth surface. Using a bottle lid or any fun shapes you can find around the house, carefully press into cornstarch to make indentations.

Step 3: Carefully fill molds with warm liquid.

If using a cornstarch mold, sift some cornstarch over gummy candy until completely covered. Let stand until candy is firm, about 20 min. (Cornstarch molds will dry faster because the cornstarch will absorb some of the moisture).

Step 5: Use your fingers or a skewer to help pull gummies out of candy molds. Don't be afraid to pull! The candy will come out in one piece. Use a sifter to remove cornstarch gummies. Candy may be a bit sticky, so you can toss candy with a very small amount of canola oil just to coat slightly.
