The $30 Makeover

Update your look without breaking your wallet
By By: Ingrie Williams
Effective makeovers aren't always about completely changing your hair colour or getting a whole new wardrobe. Some of the best and most cost-effective changes are subtle ones. Read on to find out how you can update your look for just thirty bucks. Then grab your wallet, head to the drug store and say hello to the new you!

Go deep
If a haircut is not in your beauty budget, but your tresses are getting desperate, try a deep conditioning treatment. Whatever your hair type, your locks will benefit from a double dose of nourishing ingredients. For extra conditioning, pull on a shower cap or plastic bag after you've applied the product, and then wrap your head in a towel for the recommended time. Your body heat will help the product sink into your hair. When you're finished you'll have smooth shiny locks.
Try: Les Karitýs Hair Treatment Mask with two per cent shea butter, $3.

Get glowing
A smooth healthy-looking complexion can be yours in a few simple steps. To buff your skin into shape, all you need is gentle exfoliation to reveal what lies beneath. Increase circulation and really make your face glow, by using circular motions when applying a scrub. For your final rinse, turn the water temperature from warm to cool.
Try: St. Ives Exfoliating Apricot Scrub, $5.

Polish your look
Whether your nails are long or short, there is something universally flattering about a wash of sheer pink nail colour. With just a couple of coats of polish, your hands and nails will look prettier instantly. Plus, the sheer formula requires less upkeep and will camouflage pesky nicks and chips.
Try: Cover Girl Continuous Color Nails in Peek-A-Boo Pink, $5.

Brighten up
Wake up your peepers by brushing on a shimmering eye colour. A sheer layer over the entire lid will reflect light and brighten your gaze. If you have wrinkly eyelids, you can prevent product from collecting in the creases by dabbing the shadow only on the inner corners of your eyes or using it to highlight your brow bone.
Try: Revlon Wet/Dry Single Shadow in Frosty White, $7.

Shine on
Lip gloss couldn't be easier or faster to apply. Best of all, the effects are mouth-watering. There's no need to worry about liners and blotting, just slick some on to transform dry pale lips into a shiny juicy pucker. For the fall, try a tinted gloss for an extra shot of colour.
Try: Rimmel London Jelly Gloss Sheer Lipgloss, available in eight shades, $7 each.
