Across Canada: Hike into autumn

The leaves are turning, humidity has left the air, and cable-knits are just around the corner — there is no better time to take a hike than now. Tour Canada’s longest and oldest footpath, the Bruce Trail in Ontario; head east for the Hike the Highlands Festival in Cape Breton; or just enjoy the colours on a hike through your own neighbourhood.

Nova Scotia/ Ontario: Cheers to Oktoberfest

The clinking sound of overflowing pint glasses will be heard all over Germany as Oktoberfest kicks off on September 21. On this side of the Atlantic, Canadians will be capturing the essence of the Bavarian festivities with schnitzel, merriment and international brews, while no doubt donning traditional lederhosen.

“No sleep, only art” has become a cultural tag line for city dwellers and night owls alike as Nuit Blanche transforms streets into a series of contemporary art installations. Take an afternoon nap and stay out until dawn to marvel at the work produced by the nation’s best artistic minds.
