Eating within an hour of waking will give you the best benefits and the most energy from your breakfast. By eating something early in the day you are in effect kick-starting your body. The sooner you get your metabolism up and running the more calories you’ll burn.
Think about it. After eight hours of sleep, your blood sugar levels will be low – in effect, your body has been in starvation mode all night, and it needs some fuel right away to get your body firing. The more energy you have, the more calories you’ll burn during the day by having the energy to be more active.
Make sense? Even if you’re not watching your weight, eating a healthy breakfast will keep you moving and make you less prone to making poor food choices later in the day.
But since few of us have the luxury of preparing and eating a leisurely breakfast most mornings, here’s an easy recipe for Swiss Muesli that will give you the important energy you need to jumpstart your day.
It only takes minutes to mix up the night before. Just pop the bowl in the fridge, top with fruit in the morning and voila! – a gourmet breakfast that tastes every bit as good as it is good for you.
