10 Foods That Are Better With An Egg On Top

Rich in protein, vitamins B12 and D, eggs are a perfect (and affordable) way to give breakfast, lunch or dinner a little extra staying power.

One of the ingredients we use most often in our kitchen is eggs. They're a good source of protein, vitamin B12 and vitamin D, which can help your bodies absorb and use calcium and phosphorus for strong bones and teeth, and help protect against osteoporosis. These essential vitamins are nutrients you need from outside sources, because your body can't produce them on it's own. And because vitamin B12 is only naturally found in animal products, eggs are a great choice for vegetarians who can't get this essential vitamin from animal proteins.

So go ahead, put an egg on it!

Saucy tomatoes (and toast)

As our friend Nigella Lawson puts it, “Eggs in purgatory is absolute heaven when you’re feeling like hell.” Enjoy this dish in the morning — or as we like to on occasion, as breakfast-for-dinner! Hold the eggs very close over the tomato mixture before cracking them in. Get our slow cooker eggs in purgatory recipe.

So they’re not quite on top . . . but it’s close. Our dinnertime take on the British breakfast classic “toad in the hole” is curried and baked rounds of acorn squash with, of course, a soft egg in the middle. Get our curried acorn squash and eggs with raita salad recipe.
