Afghanistan

For me, I’ve always had a global view of Remembrance Day. While I was born in Canada, my view comes largely because my parents are both World War II survivors and immigrated to Canada in 1969.

7 July, 2011, marked the end of Canada's combat mission in Afghanistan. It's hard to believe that so much time has passed and so many lives have been lost. I can't help but be reflective on those lives lost, but also, how much we have contributed to the war.

As Mark left for the field today and we had a realization about how little time we have together.

Mark and I were talking the other day about losing our friends in Afghanistan, and how difficult it is to watch their young faces appear on the news, their lives cut too short by war. Soon, we got to talking about repatriation ceremonies.
