As much as I love a metallic skirt or printed dress (and I do!), on any given day you’ll find me wearing good ol’ jeans. I hesitate to reveal the number, but if you removed the many, many pairs I own from my closet there would be a noticeable hole. Jeans are my day-in and day-out go-to staple. I love that they can work for any occasion, and I love that when I need (ok, want) a new pair I don’t have to shell out a lot to look chic. Here’s how to find your dream denim, at a wallet-pleasing price.
If you have fuller hips and thighs, you’ll love your curves in a pair of flared jeans. The slight amount of volume from the knee region downwards is what does the trick: it helps to balance proportions and slim your bottom half. A mid-rise fit is important here too. You want the waistband to come up over the hips slightly to elongate your leg line. Steer clear of low-rise fits because they have the opposite effect. Pairing flared jeans with a blazer is a classically polished look that never looks dated.

On the petite side or have a boyish frame? Check out slim cropped style jeans, they’re practically tailor-made for those figures. Think of a modern day Audrey Hepburn and choose skinny-fitting ankle revealing lengths – then up the ante by selecting a pair in a pretty colour. Whether the hem is finished or you’re sporting a thinly rolled cuff, simple flats or ladylike heels will look most elegant. And to max out the Hepburn effect, throw something striped in to the mix.

Anyone looking to banish a belly should get into a pair of high-waisted jeans a.s.a.p. Why? A waistband that sits firmly at your navel delivers impressive figure-flattering results. A high rise contains your middle (managing a muffin top in a snap), makes your torso appear longer and helps you look leaner overall. Sounds good, right? With the waistband in check, the fit of the jeans is up to you…as long as they’re not tapered (a mom jeans red flag!). Straight, wide leg trousers and boot cut styles are all chic options, and you’ll gain more style points by adding a printed top.

If you’re plus size, you should be showing off your covetable curves in colourful slim jeans, too. Look for bold hues, like red, orange or pink, and body-skimming fits with a little stretch to hug legs. A mid-rise straight leg cut that loosens slightly towards the ankle is most flattering, and looks especially stylish with sexy stacked heels.
