Make over your makeup

We all know that it's not easy to throw away your beloved products  – especially if they are costly or discontinued. But you gotta do what you gotta do.  So if you're looking to revamp your makeup case (make it a new year's resolution if you must) then watch CityTV tonight at 6pm.  I met up with health specialist Laura DiBattista to go over the top items you should have in your makeup bag as well as what to get rid of. Laura even brought her makeup bag so we could go through it together. You'll have to see it to believe it! Let's just say there is a lot of stuff that you shouldn't use beyond the expiry. I even took a peek into my own makeup bag (below) and cleaned out a few of the items I never use. Blue eyeliner? Not so much. Four lip colours? I don't think so. But it's still chock full! Read below for tips on how to clean up yours.  Here's the general list of items that you must get rid off after the due date:  Mascara: Toss it after 3-4 months. I know it's rough because my favourite DiorShow isn't cheap but invest in another one and your eyes will thank you. Foundations: Powders don't deteriorate as fast so you can keep them for up to a year. Liquids are usually six months but check the expiry dates! Lipsticks: These keep for two to three years and will keep even longer if you store them in fridge.  Lipgloss: Apparently you can keep some for up to 18 months but I wouldn't. Use it frequently or ditch it. You wouldn't use an old toothbrush. Don't use an old lip product. *** Another tip: Don't store your makeup in the bathroom. Steam and humidity will make your colours go wonky faster.  Stay tuned for the top items every makeup bag should have tomorrow.  (And read the article Drugstore Deals in our Feb issue for our expert's cheap favs!) – Kate Daley
