20s – Be proactive

Twentysomethings are not typically concerned with their skin (unless they’re prone to breakouts) but this is a great time to develop good habits and become an ardent skincare user. If you don’t already, then start using a moisturizer (or a sheer tinted moisturizer) with a minimum SPF 30. Also, remember to remove your makeup before bed and wash it, too.

Recommendation:Free up some time with help from Bliss’ Fabulous Foaming face wash. It’s a great solution for the busy, on-the-go woman because it’s a 2-in-1 cleanser and exfoliator.

30s – Take action

The 30s are when most women will begin to notice the first signs of aging. “This is when we should start using products with more antioxidants and retinol,” says Miriam Gee, owner of Gee Beauty. Retinol is a purified form of Vitamin A that can improve the appearance of fine lines while counteracting some of the damage caused by sun exposure. Recommendation:Gee swears by SkinCeuticals’ Vitamin C E Ferulic for its powerful combination of vitamins and potent dose of antioxidants.

40s – Full combat

At this stage, deeper signs of aging will become more apparent. Also, women may become more concerned with skin pigmentation and the loss of both fullness and density in their skin. Gee says that women may also start to notice visible lines around their mouth.

Recommendation: Dermalogica's Daily Microfoliant is a gentle, rice-based exfoliant that can be used everyday to brighten dull-looking skin.

50s - Crunch Time

For women 50+, the combination of natural aging, environmental stress and menopause brings more changes to the skin. "The rate of both cell proliferation and the production of collagen decreases, and our fatty tissue becomes modified,” says Doina Sandaluche, Product Developer, Evital. As a result, women experience thinner, sagging, dehydrated skin that lacks luminosity. The goal at this stage is to restore hydration and to continue to protect the skin from environmental stress.

Recommendation: Evital’s Rederm Radiance Serum “will help reinforce and strengthen the skin’s structure, along with hydrating and improving the skin’s radiance,” says Sandaluche.
