Spring Beauty

1. Barely there makeup

The natural look is fresher than ever thanks to the newest wave of sheer, illuminating formulas. Liquid, powder or cream, it’s key to find a product that suits your skin type and is easy to blend with a brush or even your fingertips.

Seen at: DVF, Vera Wang, Marni, Balmain, Alexander Wang, Valentino.

Here’s how

Start with moisturized skin and touch up only redness and imperfections. Add a soft highlighter to your cheeks and a swipe of nude lipstick to keep the look monochromatic, yet bright. Letting your natural complexion shine through is what makes this look feel modern and youthful.

Try: Bobbi Brown skin foundation stick in Natural, $51. Urban Decay Naked Skin Ultra Definition loose finishing powder in Naked Medium, $40. Make Up For Ever #128 brush, $60. Shiseido Sheer Eye Zone Corrector in light, $32.

2. Statement brows and lashes

Shelve the tweezers! Full, enhanced brows and long, luxurious lashes are the beauty must-haves of the season.

Seen at: Chloé, Marni, Emporio Armani, Thakoon, Donna Karan, Versace, Dolce & Gabbana.

Here’s how

Fill in your eyebrows with a shadow or soft pencil in a shade close to your natural hair colour, and use a brush to shape them. Lengthen lashes with layers of black mascara, or for a less intense look try one in dark brown or trendy navy.

Try: Marcelle Xtension Plus + Prolash Growth Complex mascara, $15. Guerlain Écrin Sourcils eyebrow kit, $55.

3. Sheer shadows

Light washes of colour were on the lids of models everywhere, and it was downright painterly. What’s new? Keep the finish sheer.

Seen at: Burberry, Céline, Rochas, Dolce & Gabbana, Prada, Giorgio Armani, Roberto Cavalli.

Here's how

Choose any colour palette, from classic taupes to powdery pastels and even brights. Use a medium-sized brush to cover the entire lid with shadow. If some gets smudged below the bottom lash line, don’t fret; it looks all the more artistic.

Try: Essence Mono eyeshadow in Miss Atlantis, $3. Revlon Colorstay Shadowlinks eyeshadow in Petal, Oyster & Melon, $4 each. Dior 5 Couleurs Trianon Édition eyeshadow palette in Pastel Fontanges, $62.

4. The power pout

Bold, look-at-me colour is on everyone’s lips this spring. And it’s not just about red.

Seen at: DKNY, John Galliano, Fendi, Prabal Gurung, Rag & Bone, Marchesa, Peter Pilotto.

Here’s how

Think high-impact, lively shades like fuchsia pinks, punchy corals and playful mauves. For extra credit, try a matte formula. Or if you want an equally pretty but subtler finish, apply your lipstick with your finger or blot with a tissue.

Try: Estée Lauder Pure Color Envy lipstick in Tumultuous Pink, $34. GoverGirl Lipperfection lipstick in Bombshell, $11. Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet lipstick in La Diva, $40. Guerlain Rouge Automatique lipstick in Insolence, $51. M.A.C Huggable lipcolour in Love Beam, $24. YSL Rouge Volupté lipstick in Rose Asarina, $39.

5. Back to black

Get inspired by the recent grunge revival with a sexy, dark-rimmed eye. This updated version is less messy and more elegant.

Seen at: Missoni, Mulberry, Saint Laurent, Just Cavalli, Versace, Blugirl.

Here's how

Try a feminine cat-eye flick at the end, or focus your attention on beautiful, full lashes. Lining with a pencil is easiest, but a gel or liquid formula will last longer and gives a more precise result. Don’t forget the bottom lash; that’s what makes this look — and your eyes —  really pop!

Try: Nars eye paint in Black Valley, $29. L’Oréal Paris Color Riche Le Kajal eye pencil, $11. Nars #38 angled eyeliner brush, $30.
