Chatelaine Kitchen

Last Friday the Chatelaine staff were treated to a sundae extravaganza. Rachel and Rebecca (below), our senior editors, brought in a slew of ice cream from Ed’s Real Scoop – a good old-fashioned homemade ice cream shop in Toronto’s east end. They didn’t skimp on the toppings. Check out all the fixings: Oreos, M&M’s, nuts, gummi bears, caramel sauce, chocolate sauce and homemade strawberry sauce. And of course, whipped cream. There were tons of flavours to choose from; French Mint, Coconut and Pistachio seemed to be the biggest hits. The squares in the background are a batch of Pink Lemonade Ice Cream Squares from our June issue, on stands now. We made these ones for a Cityline video shoot and then brought them along to share with the staff. For all the skeptics out there – this proves that the food we photograph is truly edible! Check out the recipe You can watch the Cityline segment, on making these, on Cityline next Monday May 11th. Everyone was so absorbed in their ice cream that they didn’t even notice that I was being a shutterbug. Lyn Chua (our assistant food editor) is on the right, exercising her scooping skills. An ice cream bar is a great idea for a dinner party, especially when you want to encourage guests to get to know each other. What are your favourite ice cream toppings?
