Last Friday the Chatelaine staff were treated to a sundae extravaganza. Rachel and Rebecca (below), our senior editors, brought in a slew of ice cream from Ed's Real Scoop - a good old-fashioned homemade ice cream shop in Toronto's east end. They didn't skimp on the toppings. Check out all the fixings: Oreos, M&M's, nuts, gummi bears, caramel sauce, chocolate sauce and homemade strawberry sauce. And of course, whipped cream. There were tons of flavours to choose from; French Mint, Coconut and Pistachio seemed to be the biggest hits. The squares in the background are a batch of Pink Lemonade Ice Cream Squares from our June issue, on stands now. We made these ones for a Cityline video shoot and then brought them along to share with the staff. For all the skeptics out there - this proves that the food we photograph is truly edible! Check out the recipe food.chatelaine.com/Recipes/View/Pink_lemonade_ice_cream_squares. You can watch the Cityline segment, on making these, on Cityline next Monday May 11th. Everyone was so absorbed in their ice cream that they didn't even notice that I was being a shutterbug. Lyn Chua (our assistant food editor) is on the right, exercising her scooping skills. An ice cream bar is a great idea for a dinner party, especially when you want to encourage guests to get to know each other. What are your favourite ice cream toppings?
