  • 1 orange
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 cup granulated sugar


  • Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Slice orange in half. Lay cut-side down and slice into 1/8-in. half-moons. Slice lemon crosswise into 1/8-in. rounds. Add to boiling water and boil 3 min. Drain, then plunge into ice water. Drain well.
  • Stir sugar with 1 cup water in a wide saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to medium. Gently boil, uncovered, until syrupy, about 5 to 8 min. Add drained citrus slices. Simmer, stirring occasionally, until slightly translucent, 12 min. Cool. Refrigerate, covered, up to 2 weeks. Serve over pudding.
