This rich sauce enhances coffee cake, but try it drizzled over gingerbread, spice cake or vanilla ice cream.
Brown sugar sauce

Ingredients
- 1/4 cup butter
- 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 2/3 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup cold milk , or cream
- 1/4 cup brandy , or rum
- 1/4 tsp vanilla
Instructions
- Melt butter in a small saucepan set over medium heat. In a medium-size bowl, stir flour with sugar. Then whisk into melted butter until mixture is moistened. Stir in milk or cream until smooth. Cook, whisking frequently, until thickened and smooth, about 5 minutes. Stir in brandy and vanilla. Remove from heat
- Serve right away over coffee cake. Or cover and refrigerate for up to a week. Reheat just before serving.
