- WHISK eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla and salt in an 8-in. square dish. Heat a large frying pan over medium.
- PLACE 2 slices of bread in egg mixture and soak 15 to 20 seconds per side.
- MELT 1 tbsp butter in the frying pan. Fry bread slices until golden brown, 2 to 3 min per side, adjusting heat to ensure even browning. Wipe pan, then repeat with remaining bread, egg mixture and butter.
- SERVE with maple syrup, icing sugar and roasted plums.
Kitchen Tip: For a nice extra touch, add 1/4 tsp cinnamon and a pinch of ground nutmeg to the egg mixture.
Kitchen Tip: Keep French toast warm on a baking sheet in 200F oven while you cook remaining slices.
