The report: On Tuesday, Harry and Meghan attended the Royal Ascot, a prestigious five-day horse race slash hat fashion show that was also attended by the Queen. As part of their duties, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex presented a trophy to “cheeky” Italian jockey Frankie Dettori, who planted a peck on Meghan’s hand while accepting his prize. And according to The Sun, this unexpected bit of PDA didn’t go over so well with a certain ginger. The smell test: The Sun’s article shows a split screen where we see Dettori kissing MM’s hand in one frame and Harry wagging his finger at him in the other. In fact, though, the accompanying video shows that the kiss went over without a hitch, meaning the person who really deserves a royal scolding is The Sun’s cheeky photo editor. Tsk, tsk.

The rumour: Thomas Markle is ruining his chances of meeting Harry

The report: You remember Papa Markle, right? The father of the bride who was going to the wedding, then he wasn’t going to the wedding, then got wound up in some sort of staged paparazzi scandal and had emergency heart surgery while his daughter was walking down the aisle? Right. So this week, Markle Sr. returned to the spotlight, sitting down for an interview with Good Morning Britain where he spilled the beans on how much he regretted missing his daughter’s big day, and how Meghan cried when she learned he wasn’t going to be there. Needless to say, the interview was not okayed by Team Buckingham. Us quotes an unnamed palace source who says that this latest incident, and his overall case of loose lips “will definitely have an effect on whether Harry meets Thomas or not.” The smell test: Go ahead and cry conspiracy theory, but isn’t the real stink here the fact that Harry hasn’t met Meghan’s dad even once after two years together?! Like, yeah, sure, he couldn’t make the wedding, but we’re talking about a Prince with access to private planes. Would it have killed him to pop over to Mexico for a few hours to meet his future father-in-law? As for whether this latest case of TMI on TM’s part will have consequences — doesn’t it kind of seem like just more of the same? And can we really blame him at this point? What’s that old expression — your dad blabs to the media once, shame on him. Your dad blabs to the media multiple times — shame on whoever it is in the royal press office who is supposed to have a handle on this.

The rumour: Meghan has given up her favourite food for Harry

The report: Certainly, the British media has done a great job of keeping us posted on the things Meghan Markle has had to give up to gain entrance into her new clan (coloured nail polish, her acting career, independence). And now, Express reports that the Duchess must give a royal wave goodbye to her favourite food: fish. Former Royal Butler Grant Harrold explains that all of the highest-ranking royals skip seafood while on duty because they want to avoid any potential instances of food poisoning. “It is a very sensible move to abandon having seafood when out and about on public duties,” Harrold says. The smell test: It’s true that the Duchess is a big fan of all things under-the-sea — in a 2013 interview she told New Potato Magazine that her favourite food day would involve seafood, pasta and a Negroni. What may be false (or at least a little fishy) is this “no fish” rule in the first place. Just a few days ago, Princess Diana’s former chef Jordan McGrady tweeted a photo of an official royal menu featuring lobster to show that seafood is not forbidden. Instead, it seems like it is mostly just avoided while on the road.

The rumour: Kate is turning the Queen against Meghan

Where you heard it: Okay! 
The report: Meghan and her Majesty recently returned from their first-ever road trip, and their vibe looked straight out of Boys on the Side. But according to Okay! this is not the true picture of relations between the Queen and her new granddaughter-in-law, and the reason for that is a “long-simmering feud” between the two duelling Duchesses. Apparently Kate and Meghan “aren’t seeing eye-to-eye,” and the former has brought granny onside. As evidence, Okay!’s source points to a recent switch-up of photos in the royal reception room at Buckingham Palace. Two weeks ago there was a framed snap of Harry and Meghan on display and now said photo has been “removed.” The smell test: Is anyone even clear what we’re sniffing at here? Amidst all the talk of frosty shoulders and feuds, Okay! gives absolutely no indication of what the tension is about. Perhaps because the only thing that has been simmering between Kate and Meghan lately is a pot of tea. As for the whole photo drama, the image in question is from the royal couple’s engagement shoot, so it may have been on display for over six months. Who knows, maybe the removal is to make way for a forthcoming wedding pic. Or maybe the Queen just wants to declutter. Whatever the case, if HRH were trying to mean-girl Meghan, she’d be out of the family, not off the mantel.
