A shared passion for found treasures and a number of chance encounters at antique markets led five women to pool their talents and open the stunning design destination Spruce CollectiveTip. Like the people behind it, the store has many faces: In addition to being a home decor shop, it provides event rentals, hosts hands-on classes and is a marketplace for local artisans.

The sea was our unexpected holiday inspiration. The five of us are currently a wee bit obsessed with all things nautical, and living on the West Coast makes the theme even more fitting. After all, it’s the stunning scenery we see outside our back door. Never worry about things being too matchy-matchy. Try mixing natural elements, like driftwood and seasonal flowers, with a classic seafaring blue and white colour scheme.

Our fave decoration of the moment is our message-in-a-bottle tree ornament! They’re rustic and sparkly all at once. To make them yourself, simply fill basic glass orbs with a handwritten note, seashells, twigs, feathers or rope, and dip them in gold paint. Then hang with twine. Don’t be afraid to think outside the box when it comes to holiday decor, like hanging strands of everyday rope instead of garland. Where to find us: Spruce Collective, 2622 Montrose Ave., Abbotsford, B.C.
