Hosting a dinner party doesn't have to be expensive, especially if you know how to turn bargain finds into dazzling display. I did a one-stop shop at my local dollar store and put together a blue-themed table setting for my summer shindig. To complete this colourful arrangement, I added fresh white flowers from my local flower shop.
Small ceramic bowls
Small bowls are an entertaining staple. You can use them to hold treats and candy, condiments and herbs, or as decorative items. For this party decor, I've used them as mini vases. You can spread them around your home or place them together to create a dramatic table centrepiece. White ceramic bowls, $2 for 3.
Placemats
Placemats can add a burst of colour to your table — and these synthetic woven placemats are so easy to clean. $1 each.
Glassware
One thing you can never have too much of at a party is glassware. Pick up a few extra pieces beforehand to ensure you are well stocked. Blue glass tumblers, $3 for set of 4 glasses.
Sea glass gems
These aqua blue and clear plastic gems add a touch of sparkle to the table. Plastic gems, $2 per package.
Square mirrors
These versatile pieces are another party staple and help to set off the sparkle in the glass and gems. Square mirrors, $1 each.
Wine glasses decor
For an easy display trick, use wine glasses as pillar candle holders. Or you can use the bowl of the glass to display flowers. Here, I've used wine glasses with colourful gems and a a small mirror to add shimmer ands parkle to my sea-themed soirée. Wine glasses, $1 each, Aqua Pillar candles, $1 each.
All of the pieces above were purchased at Dollarama.
