4 easy steps to a perfectly made bed

Steal our tricks for a bed you’ll want to hibernate in — it’s easier than you think .
How to make a bed Wallpaper, $260/roll, Farrow&Ball. Side table, $99/set of 2, bed frame, $199, Ikea. Euro shams, $46 each, quilt, $205, throw, $79, vase, $49, West Elm. Three-piece duvet cover set, $250, Hudson's Bay. Mug, $50, Old Faithful Shop. Throw pillow, $25, HomeSense.

1. Keep the basics white. Your bedding can be any colour you like, but we suggest making heavily rotated items like sheets and pillowcases white so it’s easy to swap them in and out.

2. Place your flat sheet upside down. This way the stitched trim at the top will appear the correct way up when you turn down the sheet.

3. Layer different-sized pillows. We’re partial to two square euro shams (three for a king-size bed) propped behind two to four standard pillows. Use smaller decorative pillows to give a pop of pattern or colour.

4. Add extra blankets. When autumn hits, make your bed with a coverlet and fold your duvet at the end of your bed for extra warmth. A knit throw adds texture.
