Celebrate the outdoors!

Running in the street This week I started training for the Sporting Life 10K in Toronto this Sunday (May 11). It will be my first road race since I finished the N.Y.C. marathon last November, and it’s my favourite way to kick off running season. All proceeds support Camp Ooch, for children with cancer.

Surfing in Tofino

I recently celebrated a special birthday with surfing lessons in Tofino on Vancouver Island. The water was only 6 degrees, but that didn’t stop me from squeezing into a wetsuit and catching some waves. Talk about amazing! For more visit Surf Sister.

Sunrise yoga

It’s so exhilarating to do yoga in an outdoor space with a massive group of people, like last year’s Lolë White Yoga tour. Yoga studios across the country are tapping into this trend, so ask about outdoor sessions with your favourite studio.

Connect with nature

One of the best ways to change up your workout is to take it outside! For me, that means putting on my shoes and hitting the trails for a run, hike or bike. But the benefits of the outdoors go way beyond adding variety. Studies show that people who exercise in fresh air feel less fatigued and more invigorated than those who stay inside. Natural light improves mental clarity; plus, just a few minutes in a green space is proven to ease stress.

How to stamp out evening snacking

So many people tell me they eat well all day, only to succumb to the late-night munchies. Well, I’ve got a secret solution you might want to try. Immediately after dinner or the second you feel the snack attack coming, go and floss your teeth. I’m serious. Once your mouth feels fresh and clean, the last thing you’ll want to do is eat again. Then simply brush before bed. Your health and your waistline will thank you.
