It’s been a year since the Chatelaine.com website re-launch; it’s been a good year.
But not all of it has been good, because this was the year that fitness lots its one true guru: Jack LaLanne. And yet in his passing we remembered what is important about leading a healthy lifestyle. This leads me to believe there is hope for the future of health and fitness.
Sure, there has been a lot of corruption and snake oil in this field. There are magic pills and potions, foolish exercise devices, wraps, creams, rocker shoes and calorie-burning underwear. But I think things could be turning a corner, if the past year is any indication. I think people are getting more informed about weight loss and fitness scams, and are deciding to eschew it in favour of good-old reality.
And Chatelaine.com has played an important role in getting the word out.
The new site has educated and inspired readers over the past year, teaching them that a healthy, high-performance and, yes, even hot-looking body comes not from seeing diet and exercise as a means to an end that must be endured, but as a fun lifestyle than can be embraced with vigor and passion.
Science is learning more all the time about how weight loss really works, and the myth of the quick fix is slowly being eroded by agencies like the Canadian Obesity Network. What’s more, just recently there was a very public legal victory of $25 million against Reebok for claims made regarding their “toning” shoes.
Facts, science and truth are coming to the fore. The information age is exposing diet and exercise scams better than ever and providing improved access to the real information that people need to achieve their goals.
I am certain this site will continue to play an important role, so please, keep coming back.
