Fall is just around the corner--but that doesn't mean you should put your favourite summer pieces away just yet. Many of your summer fashions will look great in the cooler months. It's all in the weight of the fabric. Choose styles in heavier cottons, denim, jersey knit and lightweight cashmere or wool. Linen and light cottons are too fine to be paired with heavier wools and knits.
White now It looks and feels fresh in the summer heat, but a head-to-toe winter white look also gives a sophisticated and polished feel during colder months. Pair a white skirt or pants with a white cashmere or wool turtleneck sweater or jacket. Finish it off with brown or tan shoes or boots for a monochromatic look. |
Bright colour Brights like pink, red and green inject life into fall's somber darker shades. Pair a boldly coloured spring jacket with a tweed skirt or pants and your basic black turtleneck sweater. Bored of black? No problem. Pink and red may be bright but they actually work like neutrals and can be worn with any shade from camel to eggplant purple. |
Short skirts Short skirts were hot this summer and they're still going strong for fall. If you didn't dare to bare your legs the first time around, don't worry--slimming and disguising opaque tights make shorter skirts easier to wear for every figure. Pair it with tall knee-skimming boots and anything from a fitted jacket to loose knits. |
Cropped pants Cropped pants are the perfect alternative to shorts in the summer and they look great in the fall with tall boots and a flirty top or a proportionately short jacket. Ankle-skimming wider cut styles are the most figure-flattering. |
Prints perfect Not all summer prints can make the move into fall. Stick to patterns in darker, warmer colours and graphic designs. Wear a printed top under a black suit or your favourite printed dress with a fitted blazer and boots. | |
