Ask Lisa + Liz Q: I'm tired of pants and ready for a skirt. What's the best silhouette for spring? First published in Chatelaine.com's March 2003 issue. © Rogers Publishing Ltd. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Pencil, mini or full--spring's top three skirts offer a look for every shape and style. Pencil skirts are straight and slim with a knee-length hem. The best minis hover just an inch above your knee or soar even higher. The 50's-inspired full skirts are circle silhouettes or pleated. Which one is best for you? The lean shape of a pencil skirt flatters every body type and never looks dated. If you have great legs, enjoy the mini no matter your age or size--just don't go too short, (micro-minis, about the size of a belt it seems look best on teens). In general, the shorter the skirt the lower the heel; wear flats for a sporty feel or kitten heels (shapely inch-high heels) to dress it up. Fuller figures are flattered by a full A-line skirt in a dark colour. Balance a top-heavy figure with a brightly coloured or patterned style. Pair an A-line with a simple, fitted top and slingbacks for a polished look or a fitted T-shirt and flats for a more casual approach. --Liz Cabral |
