3
1/4 cup hoisin sauce
1/4 cup orange juice
2 tsp hot chili-garlic sauce, optional
1 tsp vegetable oil
500 g lean ground beef
3/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup coarsely chopped fresh basil, or 1 tsp dried basil
3 green onions, thinly sliced
1/2 large red bell pepper
1/4 cup mayonnaise, preferably light
1 tsp dark sesame oil
1 tsp freshly squeezed lemon juice
4 small flour tortillas, each about 9 in.
2 to 3 cups mesclun greens or shredded lettuce
In a small bowl, stir hoisin with orange juice and chili-garlic sauce. Heat oil in large frying pan over medium heat. Crumble in meat. Using a fork, stir often until no pink remains, 5 to 8 minutes. Add more oil, if needed. Drain liquid from pan. Sprinkle with salt. Stir in hoisin mixture, basil and onions. Remove from heat.
Meanwhile, core and seed pepper. Thinly slice. In a small bowl, stir mayonnaise with sesame oil. Stir in 1/2 teaspoon (2 mL) lemon juice. Taste, then add remaining lemon juice, if needed. Spread over tortillas. Spoon meat mixture down centre of tortillas. Top with pepper strips and greens. Wrap tortilla over filling. Serve warm or at room temperature.
