- Melt butter in a small saucepan set over medium heat. In a medium-size bowl, stir flour with sugar. Then whisk into melted butter until mixture is moistened. Stir in milk or cream until smooth. - Serve right away over coffee cake. Or cover and refrigerate for up to a week. Reheat just before serving.
This rich sauce enhances coffee cake, but try it drizzled over gingerbread, spice cake or vanilla ice cream.
