Homemade Apple-Cinnamon Instant Oatmeal Recipe

Chatelaine Triple Tested

Add this super-speedy idea to your recipe box and you'll never skip breakfast again. Plus, variations to make it maple-pecan; cinnamon raisin and banana chocolate

Ingredients

  • 10 small resealable containers

For each serving

  • 1/2 cup instant or quick oats

  • 1 tbsp brown sugar

  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon

  • pinch salt

  • 1/4 cup chopped dried apples

Instructions

  • In each of 10 containers, combine 1/2 cup instant or quick (1-minute) oats with 1 tbsp brown sugar, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, pinch of salt and 1/4 cup chopped dried apples.

    When ready to eat, add oatmeal mix to bowl and top with 1 cup boiling water or milk. Stir and let sit for 5 min.

    For the microwave, add 1 cup water or milk, stir, then microwave on high for 1 to 1 1/2 min. Stir again and enjoy.

Variations

Maple-Pecan:
Omit cinnamon. Use 1 tbsp pure maple flakes instead of sugar plus 1/4 cup toasted chopped pecans instead of apples.

Cinnamon-Sugar Raisin:
Use 1 tbsp granulated sugar instead of brown sugar plus 1/4 cup raisins instead of apples.

Banana-Chocolate:
Use 1 tbsp cocoa powder instead of cinnamon and 1 tbsp granulated sugar instead of brown plus 1/4 cup chopped banana chips instead of apples.
