This week, Chatelaine’s editors are battling it out to convince readers — and each other — that their favourite holiday movie is the most magical. This is the final piece in our five-part series.
I'll give it to my editor Carley Fortune, that White Christmas looks like a totally over-the-top musical Christmas adventure that I would love — but I've never seen it. And, Sarah, I love Christmas Vacation too. But the movie that gives me all of the Christmas feels, featuring sweet little Susan Walker (AKA everyone's favourite child star, Mara Wilson), is Miracle on 34th Street. Sure, it's completely unrealistic (like, why is Santa hanging out in New York City so close to Christmas, anyway?), but it's not Christmas until my dad and I watch it together.
10. Susan Walker is the best-dressed six-year-old in history.
9. And just look at this face.
8. Richard Attenborough (AKA Kris Kringle) is the most loveable on-screen Santa.
7. Allison Janney plays a sassy Long Islander who tells the manager their Santa has made a Cole's shopper out of her.
6. Turtleneck-loving Brian, arguably the hero of the film, is pretty easy on the eyes.
5. Susan really knows how to dish it to those who deserve it (i.e. the non-believers).
4. The montage where all of New York City stands behind Santa will make a believer out of you too.
3. Even the bad guys believe.
2. This beard-pull reaction.
