These spice holders are a cute and easy way to re-use old jars.  In three simple steps, you’ll have a modern assortment of spice jars that will be a highlight in any kitchen.

Here’s what to do:

1. Soak the jars (we used baby food jars) in water for a few minutes, to ensure the labels come off easily.

2.  Once dry and clean, spray the jars with white spray paint, and the tops of the jars with chalkboard paint (chalkboard paint can be found at any craft store).

3.  Once dry, write on the tops of the jars with chalk, denoting which spice they hold.

And you’re done!

  1. These are all well and good, but one cannot see what is in the jar. And one has to look at the top to see what is in the jar. Because they are not clear, one can not see how much of a herb or spice is still in the jar. I use small mustard jars which are clear and I can see at a glance if I need to buy more of anything.

  2. Hi! We painted the jar tops with the chalkboard paint simply because we keep our spices in a drawer; so its easiest to see that way! Alternatively, you can paint the front of the jar with the chalkboard paint: whatever works for you and your kitchen!
