1. Salute the sun

The summer solstice has arrived! Welcome the longest day of the year in the northern hemisphere with a sun salutation at a free, outdoor yoga class this weekend. And here's one more thing to feel good about: proceeds from mat rentals and donations at OM T.O. will go to Colon Cancer Canada.

Every Sunday, Yoga in the Park, Halifax

Every Monday and Thursday, Yoga & Zumba in the Park, Winnipeg

2. Celebrate Canadian multiculturalism

Canada's beauty rests not only in its diverse landscape, but in its rich multicultural makeup. The 27th of June marks Multicultural Day and community celebrations come early this weekend with festivals featuring international cuisine, dancing, and artisans. Top picks: Browse the international outdoor market at the 46th Annual Multicultural Festival in Kitchener; try your hand at koinoburi at the Whistler Library and Museum, or watch JUNO nominated Don Amero after chowing your way through the food tents in Halifax.

June 22-23, 46th Annual Multicultural Festival, Kitchener

3. Go coastal

Head to the water and watch as the vessels roll in, and take part in the celebrations coming with them. Expect food trucks, musicians and local artists to take up residency on the harbourfront in honour of the Tall Ships and Dragon Boat Festivals happening across the country.

4. Paddle forward

It's National Paddle Week! No experience with kayaking, canoeing or paddleboarding? No problem. Dip your oar in a body of water under supervision at a clinic this weekend as MEC Paddlefest hits Canadian shorelines.

5. Eat off the grill

BBQ season is in full-effect, and one better, event planners are pairing fresh meats off the grill with live music. This weekend, catch a live show, sip on a local brew and hit up a grill.

June 21-22, 18th Annual Fern Fest, Victoria
