I'm always so impressed by the many clever DIY projects and furniture makeovers I see on different sites. For example, Ikea Hackers takes Ikea products to modify and create one-of-a-kind pieces with often show stopping results -- and at a fraction of the cost. But for those of you who are not DIY inclined, the following design companies make it a cinch to upgrade existing Ikea furnishings with no creative genius required. Bemz is a textile company that makes slipcovers specifically for Ikea-upholstered pieces. With a huge selection of fabrics ranging from bold, punchy graphics to sophisticated, neutral classics, you're bound to find the perfect look for your space. You can easily experiment with new styles -- perhaps choosing a bolder look you wouldn’t normally use -- for much cheaper than a custom-upholstered piece. O'verlays is a new company by two designers who saw the potential for having fretwork panels easily accessible, available to order in premade sizes and would go well with many popular Ikea pieces. Classic patterns like trellis and Greek key can be used on existing Ikea items or on the walls. You'll be able to get a stylish, custom look for a lesser price.
