There’s a reason Clif Bar & Company — the hip organic snack company based in Northern California — has really happy employees and a super-low turnover rate. Check out just a few of the perks that every person who works there can take advantage of. (And yes, we want to steal and implement all them! Including on-site spinning.)
The employee restaurant for staff, Kali’s Kitchen, is named after Clif Bar founder Gary Erickson’s grandmother. It boasts amazing local produce and meats, scruffy-cute hipster chefs and an out-of-this-world salad bar (hello leafy kale!). But the best part? Every Thursday morning, they invite the entire staff to come in for free breakfast. And I’m talking good breakfast: Eggs. Fresh-cut fruit. Steel-cut oats. Waffles. Bacon. Sausage. Coffee. Heaven.
Anyone who works at Clif can choose to work 80 hours in nine days and enjoy every other Friday off. That’s right! They’ve set up this easy-going schedule to allow their people the chance to get out there and do what they love. From running to cycling to mountain climbing and every extreme sport in between, if you work at Clif, they want you to pursue that passion.
Of course, we’ve all been there – when we can’t get out of the office for whatever reason. And that’s why Clif offers a roster of personal trainers in their full-service fitness facilities to whip you into shape in no time. Added benefits include a climbing wall (that's me in the middle!) – and private massage therapy rooms.
What else can we say but, “Wow, how cool is that?” Not only can you set up your pooch at your feet, but you can drop your kids off at the daycare and visit them any time you want.
One of my absolute favourite takeaways from visiting Clif Bar (and also one of the easiest things any of us can start doing with our teams) was that anyone can run a meeting. At Clif they have a weekly all-team meeting. But instead of it being run by the boss or the founder, it has a revolving “host.” The host can be anyone at any level, and they are given free reign to run the meeting however they want. The only objective is to ensure all the necessary information gets out, but how that happens is completely up to that week’s host. Love it!
